Originally launched in 2019, the Áspero redefined what gravel bikes could be: fast, aggressive, and race-ready. The latest version stays true to that bold DNA, with thoughtful upgrades that make it even better: a threaded bottom bracket shell, cleaner internal cable routing, and a UDH-compatible derailleur hanger for full compatibility with SRAM Transmission.

Oh, and yes — it’s more aerodynamic. But not just for speed’s sake — this aero boost is about energy conservation. Shave off 3 watts in a headwind, and that’s one less gel you’ll need to force down. Worth it? Absolutely.

We’ve also refined comfort and capability:

• Lowered seat stays offer more rear compliance
• Slightly reduced front-end stiffness softens long-haul fatigue
• Increased tire/mud clearance inspired by the R5-CX and lessons from the 2023 Unbound mudfest

Threaded Bottom Bracket

Áspero features the asymmetrical T47a threaded bottom bracket, first introduced on the R5-CX. This system combines the performance benefits of BBRight with the simplicity and serviceability of a classic threaded design. It's easy to maintain and built to last — perfect for riders who like to do their own wrenching.

Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH)

The new Áspero comes with SRAM’s Universal Derailleur Hanger, giving you full compatibility with modern Transmission drivetrains — and ensuring you're future-proof for whatever's next. Whether you're racing hard or riding wild, UDH has your back.

Internal Cable Routing

Thanks to shared bearing dimensions with models like the R5, Soloist, R5-CX, and Caledonia, Áspero is highly customizable. Mix and match stem and bearing cap setups to get the exact cockpit look and feel you want. For a fully integrated, race-ready front end, just pair the ST31 stem with the HB13 handlebar from the R5.
